We are excited to invite you to attend the 2015 ISSTD Conference. This will be a very special conference with a major focus on in-depth, practical clinical training in the treatment of the chronically traumatized. Each of the three conference days will focus on a different major theme and related sub-themes. The themes and sub-themes will flow from initial presentations by highly respected plenary speakers.
Day One of the conference will focus on Mind-Body Connections, one of the major growth areas of knowledge about trauma survivors. Our plenary speaker will be Kathleen Kendall-Tackett, PhD, one of the most respected and well-published authors in this area. Sub-themes will include the implications for clinical practice of the neurobiology of trauma, sensorimotor therapy approaches, use of mindfulness and yoga, approaches to somatoform disorders, and the interface between trauma and physical health.
Day Two focuses on the Art of Psychotherapy, with Harold Kudler, MD as the plenary speaker. Dr. Kudler is highly respected for his ability to bring a psychodynamic perspective to the treatment of trauma. Sub-themes will include psychodynamic understanding of trauma, case formulation and treatment trajectories, treatment of complex dissociative disorders, and adjunctive treatment modalities including EMDR, Hypnosis, and Expressive therapies.
Day Three will focus on the Therapeutic Relationship and the Person of the Therapist. Laurie Anne Pearlman, PhD will be our plenary speaker on vicarious traumatization. Dr. Pearlman is one of the foremost authors and researchers on vicarious traumatization and the person of the therapist in the treatment of trauma. Sub-themes will include transference/countertransference issues, relational struggles in trauma therapy, attachment styles and therapy, and self of the therapist and vicarious traumatization.
We invite you to submit proposals which are connected to the themes and sub-themes identified above. Research which updates the working clinician’s knowledge base and and is relevent to the above themes will also be welcome.
We look forward to the contributions you can make to an already extremely exciting and rich educational menu.
We look forward to seeing you in Orlando, Florida in April 2015!
