The International Society
for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation has successfully
completed eight years of of the Dissociative Disorders Psychotherapy
Training Program (DDPTP) and over 1500 participants have
made use of this program.
Your Choice of Several
Modules to Meet Your Training Needs: The
current course offerings encompass course work in chronic
complex trauma, child and adolescent trauma and dissociation,
and adult dissociative disorders. Online modules are available
for the child and adolscent program, and the programs in
adult dissociation. The following description applies to
the courses in general. Child and adolescent programs often
follow a weekend seminar format with nine sessions rolled
into four weekends. Check with your instructor about the
format of their course offering. We endeavor to be flexible
in offerring high quality programs that meet the needs
of busy clinicians.
The face-to-face seminar
part of the program consists of nine monthly
or bi-weekly sessions of two and one-half hours. The sessions
are designed to focus on both readings and clinical situations.
Clinical supervision is not provided as part of this seminar.
Cases are discussed in the context of the course work,
though case material is not limited to that day's topic
for that specific seminar. Registration is limited to 12
persons per site. Participants must be licensed professionals,
and they must also receive the approval of the local faculty
to attend. Clinicians in training may attend with the written
recommendation of the chairperson of their training program/department.
Clinicians who attend these courses must already be treating
a person with a major dissociative disorder. Our experience
is that unless that is the case, participants do not have
enough contextual experience of dissociative processes
to be able to really take in the course material in a meaningful
way.
We have three distance
learning modules. The Standard course starts
in September and ends in June. The Advanced course starts
in February, pauses in July/August, and resumes in September
and ends in December. This is an excellent option for
persons who are too far away from a local site to attend.
We have a real international community interacting with
a team of expert faculty. The coursework is the same.
You don't have to be a computer whiz to engage in the
process. In Winter 2009, an online module for the Child
and Adolescent program is being piloted. For more information
regarding online learning, click
here.
The Advanced
Course , designed by Steven Frankel, Ph.D., J.D.
has additional emphasis on attachment, special technique,
special adjustment of the treatment frame, transference
and countertransference, boundaries, communications with
alters, and integration and termination. Course objectives
are available if you click here .
Format and Fees are the same as
for the Standard program.
We continue the popular Child & Adolescent trauma
treatment: Assessment
and Treatment of Traumatized Children and Adolescents with
Dissociative Symptoms and Disorders. This course
has been designed by Joyanna
Silberg, Ph.d ., and Fran
Waters, DCSW, LMFT, internationally recognized
leaders in this field, as well as each being past presidents
of ISSTD, with input from Sandra
Wieland, Ph.D.,R.Psych., co-chair
of ISSTD Child & Adolescent Task Force. This program
is designed to be of interest to a wide range of clinicians
who work in both private and public sectors with children.
After a year of pilot study, this course will now be available
in the United States, Canada, Sweden, England, and the Netherlands.
This course is offered in two formats: 4 Saturdays (6 hours)
- one Saturday a month for 4 months or 9 evenings (2 1/2
hours) biweekly for 4 months. Before you may register for
this program, you must speak with your local faculty member
about your clinical experience and interests. Registration
is limited for this course to 20 participants. To read more
about these programs, please click on the following links

sites, see Locations, below.

Fees
Child and Adolescent Training
Adult Dissociative Disorders
Online Training:
Registration
for ISSTD Members: $385 ; for Non-ISSTD Members: $435. If
you wish to have CEU credit please add $40 (available only
in U.S. and Canada ). This fee includes copyright fees and
course materials. You will receive a CD with course materials
when registration is complete. All fees are in U.S.
Dollars. We previously discounted some fees outside
the U.S. Due to the change in the value of the dollar, this
is no longer being done.
Introduction to Chronic
Complex Post-traumatic Disorders:
Registration for ISSTD Members
is $225 and for non-members $275. All fees are in U.S. Dollars.
It is expected that CEUs will be available for this course
in the U.S. and Canada only, for an additional fee.
If you withdraw from
any course less than 15 days prior to its local
starting date, there is a $25 non-refundable charge.
If you are sent course materials, prior to your notification
of withdrawal from the course, regardless of the date of
your notice, your refund will also be less the copyright
fees and fee for the CD. Registration is limited
to 12 participants per location. Once the course starts
no new students can be accepted. The course fee is not
refundable if you withdraw from the course after two weeks
prior to its start, unless an acceptable replacement for
your registration is found, in a timely fashion, prior to
the start of the course. Refund of fees, and acceptance
at that time, is the decision of the course Directors.
All materials used for this course are subject to copyright
laws and are not for duplication or distribution by course
participants. Fees must be submitted with registration,
and must be submitted in US dollars. If for reasons
beyond the control of the DDPTP, the class for which you
register is cancelled, and you have already received a
CD of course materials, the DDPTP will retain copyright
and CD production fees of $85. If you take the
course within two years of the canceled course, you will
not be required to pay for the course materials a second
time.
CEU's: Currently,
we have arranged to have CEU's provided for non-M.D.'s,
in the U.S. and Canada . When you register, please indicate
whether or not you wish to have CEU credit arranged. The
fee, when available at your seminar site, is $40, and will
be charged separately, during course registration. You
can get preliminary information at the CEU
information page .
There are no CEUS currently
available for the online course.
The Executive Council of ISSTD
is excited about continuing to offer this seminar. We believe
that the best way to have an increasingly favorable climate
for the treatment of persons with dissociative disorders
is to have a well educated population of clinicians providing
services. We hope you will join us for this course.
In November 2003, the Executive
Council voted to offer a discount for membership
in the ISSTD for those persons who have never been members
and were registering for the DDPTP. This represents
a substantial savings and the benefits of membership to course
participants, including discounted admission to our International
meeting, as well as local meetings. To participate in this
program please download a special membership application
by clicking
here (Adobe Acrobat Reader required). This does
not change your registration fee for the course (you
would still register as a non-member), but it does give you
a year of the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation, as well
as other benefits of membership.
For participants outside North
America, please be aware that membership fees are pro-rated
based on grouping countries on the basis of international
data on comparative purchasing power amongst nations. Your
membership fee may actually be well below the discounted
rate. Please check this out from the home page of this web
site.
The course Directors ,
Richard Chefetz, M.D., A. Steven Frankel, Ph.D., J.D.,
Donald Fridley, Ph.D., Elizabeth Howell, Ph.D., Annita
Jones, Psy.D. (November 2007) and Eli Somer, Ph.D., are
proud of the distinguished faculty members who contributed
their energy and talents to make the initial years of this
training program so successful. The course grew from the
eleven month long course which Dr. Elizabeth Bowman taught
in Indianapolis . Revised by Dr. Chefetz to nine months,
1000 students have now participated in this program in
its first five years.
Receiving Approval to Register: ISSTD
is interested in the success of this program. To ensure the
highest standards in our profession, we are asking each potential
participant to call and speak with the instructor
in your area (if two instructors, speak with at
least one, if registering for the online program ,
write Annita Jones, Psy.D.
If your instructor agrees with your participation
in this program, they will tell you to register. If
you register without prior consent of an instructor, we cannot
guarantee your instructor's approval and your registration
fee may be refunded to you, minus an administrative fee of
$25 for handling of improperly submitted registration materials.
Applicants must be licensed clinicians, or if you
are a graduate student, a letter from your Department Chairperson
giving permission for your participation in this program
must be sent to your faculty person.
Course sites which have two faculty listed will have one
course co-taught by both faculty. To begin the
registration process, use the information below to contact
the faculty member in your area for permission
to register.
